April 22, 2022 is Earth Day 2022.

Earth Day 2022: Invest in our planet. Grow the Earth's canopy. End plastic pollution. Build a green economy. Support climate literacy. Restore our Earth. Switch to sustainable fashion.

This year’s theme is, which means

"We need to act (boldly), innovate (broadly), and implement (equitably). It’s going to take all of us. All in. Businesses, governments, and citizens â€” everyone accounted for, and everyone accountable. A partnership for the planet."

Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ÊÓƵ is incorporating green goals within its 2021-2026 Strategic Plan – Pathways to Institutional Excellence by prioritizing the creation of green and sustainable campuses, minimizing the College’s carbon footprint, and engaging in campus beautification efforts that culturally reflect Durham and Orange counties’ communities.

Keep reading to find out how you can learn more to do more to invest in our planet and our future.

Want to learn more about the history of Earth Day itself?

Check out , a PBS American Experience documentary that "traces the origins of the modern environmental movement through the eyes of nine Americans who propelled the movement from its beginnings in the 1950s to its moment of triumph in 1970 with the original Earth Day and to its status as a major political force in America" [description taken from documentary description].

More of a podcast person?

The Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ÊÓƵ Library highly recommends , co-hosted by Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson. It's an incredible podcast that touches on many of the same things the book does. Every episode ends with a small action you can take after learning about various topics relating to climate change.

We also recommend , co-hosted by Dr. Leah Stokes and Dr. Katharine Wilkinson as they tell stories about the powerful forces behind climate change — and the tools we have to fix it. It's billed as a podcast "for the climate curious people who know climate change is a problem, but are trying to figure out how to tackle it."

Another podcast to check out is , hosted by Kristy Drutman, "a Filipina American climate activist who interviews diverse, boundary-pushing leaders and advocates redefining what it means to be an 'environmentalist' in the 21st century."

Happy Earth Day! Let's make change!
